Used Drum Kits

0

It is not unjustified to look for used drum kits—a lot of people are already doing that. These are drum kits that people have been using and now want to get rid of them. However, you must not think that they are getting rid of their drum sets because they aren’t working as well as they used to. It is possible that the seller might be upgrading themselves to a more sophisticated drum set and that’s the reason they are selling their existing ones. In fact, websites such as Amazon and eBay where used drum kits are mostly available will make a point of mentioning all the contents and features of the drum kits along with their tenure of usage and sometimes even why the seller is selling them.

Now, when you are getting a used drum kit, there’s a lot of flexibility for you because you can think about what you really want to have. At the very least, your drum kit must contain a bass drum, a snare drum, a floor tom and two mounted tom toms. Usually, there is no need of having cymbals and crash and ride if you are just starting out. You might want to get your cymbals later on, when you are better acquainted with how to use your drums. However, if you are a pro already and going in for a secondhand drum kit, you might want to look at one that is being sold with a cymbal package as well.

Speaking specifically of cymbals, there are different sizes for you to choose from. The best sizes if you are a beginner would be a ride cymbal of 20”, a crash cymbal of 16” and 14” hi-hat cymbals, two of them. There are also combined crash and ride cymbals available which you might want to consider. These are good if you want to save some on the cost.

If you are intending to buy an electronic used drum kit, you have to be more cautious because then you will also have to check the hardware. Make sure that everything is working properly. In fact, you should insist on getting a demonstration of the whole set in action before you make the purchase.

One of the things that you can particularly look for is if there is any chipping at the edge of the drum or if there is some unevenness in their level. These are things you can check visually, but you should take some time out and get a demonstration to rule out any possibilities. The rims should all be even and the drum brackets should all be in position, performing their fundamental duty of holding the drums securely.

These are the basic things you should look for when buying a used drum kit. Make sure you have everything right, and don’t just look at the price.
